Agartala:   Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has raised his voice for the recognition of the state's tribal language, Kokborok, on International Mother Tongue Day."We have given recognition to Kokborok as a state language, now the central government should also recognise it. There are 22 (Indian) languages recognised under the eighth schedule of the Constitution by the union government. We are again demanding today to the centre to recognise Kokborok language under the eight schedule of the Constitution for its overall development and growth in systematic manner," he said at a function celebrating International Mother Language Day 2015 on Saturday. International Mother Language Day was proclaimed by the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in November 1999.Various cultural programmes were performed to observe the day to promote linguistic and cultural diversity.
